What's the Hold Up?

In case you are wondering why it will take so long before we can go pick up our sweetie, I thought I would post a quote from our agency explaining the remaining steps of our process:

“Once we receive a referral and it has been accepted by a family there is an investigation by the Ministry of Justice Dept and the local Police. They need to check the validity of all the signatures of the birth family proving either abandonment or relinquishment of the child – this is mandatory for the US consulate. The police also need to gather all the information available about this child. (i.e. medical records, birth information, any available social documentation and birth certificate) All of this takes time, since the police are not very motivated due to lack of funds and there is not one particular person allocated solely to adoption investigations. An added piece during the investigation is if the birth family has moved than the police must track down the family to verify all of the information and this can be very difficult at times. Once the police collect all of this information it must be presented and approved by the regional Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and then from that level it is submitted to the IAD. Once the IAD approves the information, they will alert the MOJ of the approval and they will issue a G&R. I know it is very convoluted, but all we can do is just sit tight as they do all these necessary steps which are even more strict for American families as our Consulate holds the paperwork to a higher standard than other countries.”

And if you really read through all that, you have too much time on your hands. :)
