Well, it seems we have a naughty-pants on our hands. The first day with Caleb he hardly uttered a peep. He was just a scared and quiet little boy. When we were at Tam Binh the nannies gave us a little piece of paper with his eating and sleeping schedule on it. I had received this information previously from Hanh, so I didn’t give it much thought. Yesterday afternoon I pulled it from the bag and realized there was something else written on the bottom, so we asked Yen to translate it for us. Lo and behold, it was a few notes on Ngoc’s personality. Here’s what we got:
Likes to choose shoes and clothes for himself.
Fights with his friends.
Likes snacks.
Does not like to listen to those in charge.
Likes to be held.
Bites his friends.
Hmmm. How ‘bout that? Thanks for the warning! Just after Yen gave us this fun news and we parted for the day; it was time for Caleb’s nap. He threw a screaming, kicking fit, but we didn’t give in and soon he was sleeping contently between us. Battle One – Score one for the parents.
Today’s naptime: Same ordeal, only worse. Battle two – sorry to say the kid won.
Dinner at Highlands Coffee tonight after a couple hours of shopping in the blazing heat. Caleb wanted to get back in the taxi. He LOVES to ride in the car. He started the screaming. Loud screaming. High pitched screaming. Dad took control and I’m happy to say, Battle Three - Parents come out on top.
Well, I’ll keep you up on the latest scores as the trip progresses. Pray for Caleb. He needs to know that even when he loses, he wins. There is nothing he can do to make us not love him.

That's so funny that they left those notes with you. I've never heard of anyone else getting personality notes! You guys have got to be pros at handling screaming fits by now aren't you?
He'll do just fine as soon as he is into a regular routine at home.
If you get a chance, if you get to Ben Thanh market could you get some jewlery for Elia? Those fake jade bracelets type, and jingle anklets. I'll pay you back.
If you don't get around to it don't worry about it at all!
Thanks!
Good luck with naughty pants! :)
I'm loving those personality traits! He'll fit right in with the ear pullers of the family...
Glad to hear he has some spunk in him...being the youngest of 6, he'll need it! I would love to be a mouse in the boys' room at the McCashen household when it's naptime and bedtime. With Keegan as the ringleader and his posse' following behind, I'm sure they'll get into lots of trouble! Speaking as a mom of 4 boys who've decided to camp out in a play tent in the twins' room the past two nights. Why...because they can. I'm glad my 13 and 10 year old want to be with my 5 year olds! I hope they'll still want to have campouts together 20 years from now!
Wait until he gets home and finds out he has 5 brothers and sisters to play with. What a special family God has put together!
I love your quote "even when he loses, he wins". That was so insightful. He's one lucky boy!
Yeah, he's outnumbered all right. One Kelly is worth about 18 Mamas.
But I've also been thinking about the kid:parent ratio when you get back home.
Ya might as well start waving the white flag. The kids are winning, 6:2.
Ha! I have a feeling he'll get put in his place pretty quickly when he gets home! Suddenly he'll be the youngest, and I doubt if the other ones are going to take kindly to being bitten and hit! Keegan and Micah, be warned!
Oh crack me up. If somone would have written us a note about Hayden and his best attributes at that age the list would have looked very similar! Hang on for the ride!
What a fun note to keep in his baby book! Thanks for sharing all the details, the good, the cute and the naughty.

I love his soccer out-fit. He's gona slid right in.

Soon you will be adding to the list...Loves hugs and kisses, smiles at siblings funny faces, loves mama's cooking and going bye bye in Daddy's car. Just smother him in love and being consistent, just like you have with the other wonderful kids at home!
